WALLS

Haggai 1:4

King James Version

4 Is it time for you,

O ye, to dwell in your cieled houses,

and this house lie waste?

How to fortify the walls?

Build it upon GOD.

As these verses show:

Deuteronomy 28:49-52

King James Version

49 The Lord shall bring a nation against thee from far,

from the end of the earth, as swift as the eagle flieth;

a nation whose tongue thou shalt not understand;

50 A nation of fierce countenance,

which shall not regard the person of the old,

nor shew favour to the young:

51 And he shall eat the fruit of thy cattle,

and the fruit of thy land, until thou be destroyed:

which also shall not leave thee

either corn, wine, or oil,

or the increase of thy kine,

or flocks of thy sheep,

until he have destroyed thee.

52 And he shall besiege thee in all thy gates,

until thy high and fenced walls come down,

wherein thou trustedst,

throughout all thy land:

and he shall besiege thee in all thy gates

throughout all thy land,

which the Lord thy God hath given thee.

Joshua 6:2-5

King James Version

2 And the Lord said unto Joshua,

See, I have given into thine hand Jericho,

and the king thereof, and the mighty men of valour.

3 And ye shall compass the city, all ye men of war,

and go round about the city once.

Thus shalt thou do six days.

4 And seven priests shall bear before the ark

seven trumpets of rams' horns:

and the seventh day

ye shall compass the city seven times,

and the priests shall blow with the trumpets.

5 And it shall come to pass,

that when they make a long blast with the ram's horn,

and when ye hear the sound of the trumpet,

all the people shall shout with a great shout;

and the wall of the city shall fall down flat,

and the people shall ascend up

every man straight before him.

Joshua 6:20

King James Version

20 So the people shouted

when the priests blew with the trumpets:

and it came to pass,

when the people heard the sound of the trumpet,

and the people shouted with a great shout,

that the wall fell down flat,

so that the people went up into the city,

every man straight before him,

and they took the city.

1 Samuel 25:13-16

King James Version

13 And David said unto his men,

Gird ye on every man his sword.

And they girded on every man his sword;

and David also girded on his sword:

and there went up after David about four hundred men;

and two hundred abode by the stuff.

14 But one of the young men told Abigail,

Nabal's wife, saying,

Behold,

David sent messengers

out of the wilderness to salute our master;

and he railed on them.

15 But the men were very good unto us,

and we were not hurt, neither missed we any thing,

as long as we were conversant with them,

when we were in the fields:

16 They were a wall unto us both by night and day,

all the while we were with them keeping the sheep.

2 Samuel 20:15-20

King James Version

15 And they came and besieged him

in Abel of Bethmaachah,

and they cast up a bank against the city,

and it stood in the trench:

and all the people that were with Joab

battered the wall, to throw it down.

16 Then cried a wise woman out of the city,

Hear, hear; say, I pray you, unto Joab,

Come near hither, that I may speak with thee.

17 And when he was come near unto her,

the woman said, Art thou Joab?

And he answered, I am he.

Then she said unto him,

Hear the words of thine handmaid.

And he answered, I do hear.

18 Then she spake, saying,

They were wont to speak in old time, saying,

They shall surely ask counsel at Abel:

and so they ended the matter.

19 I am one of them

that are peaceable and faithful in Israel:

thou seekest to destroy a city and a mother in Israel:

why wilt thou swallow up the inheritance of the Lord?

20 And Joab answered and said,

Far be it, far be it from me,

that I should swallow up or destroy.

1 Kings 3:1

King James Version

3 And Solomon made affinity

with Pharaoh king of Egypt,

and took Pharaoh's daughter,

and brought her into the city of David,

until he had made an end of building his own house,

and the house of the Lord,

and the wall of Jerusalem round about.

1 Kings 6:1-2

King James Version

6 And it came to pass

in the four hundred and eightieth year

after the children of Israel were come out

of the land of Egypt,

in the fourth year of Solomon's reign over Israel,

in the month Zif, which is the second month,

that he began to build the house of the Lord.

2 And the house which king Solomon built for the Lord,

the length thereof was threescore cubits,

and the breadth thereof twenty cubits,

and the height thereof thirty cubits.

1 Kings 6:7

King James Version

7 And the house, when it was in building,

was built of stone

made ready before it was brought thither:

so that there was neither hammer nor axe

nor any tool of iron heard in the house,

while it was in building.

1 Kings 6:27

King James Version

27 And he set the cherubims within the inner house:

and they stretched forth the wings of the cherubims,

so that the wing of the one touched the one wall,

and the wing of the other cherub touched the other wall;

and their wings touched one another

in the midst of the house.

1 Kings 7:12

King James Version

12 And the great court round about

was with three rows of hewed stones,

and a row of cedar beams,

both for the inner court of the house of the Lord,

and for the porch of the house.

1 Kings 20:28-30

King James Version

28 And there came a man of God,

and spake unto the king of Israel, and said,

Thus saith the Lord,

Because the Syrians have said,

The Lord is God of the hills,

but he is not God of the valleys,

therefore will I deliver all this great multitude

into thine hand,

and ye shall know that I am the Lord.

29 And they pitched one over against the other seven days.

And so it was, that in the seventh day

the battle was joined:

and the children of Israel slew of the Syrians

an hundred thousand footmen in one day.

30 But the rest fled to Aphek, into the city;

and there a wall fell upon twenty

and seven thousand of the men that were left.

And Benhadad fled, and came into the city,

into an inner chamber.

2 Chronicles 26:4-6

King James Version

4 And he did that which was right in the sight of the Lord,

according to all that his father Amaziah did.

5 And he sought God in the days of Zechariah,

who had understanding in the visions of God:

and as long as he sought the Lord,

God made him to prosper.

6 And he went forth and warred against the Philistines,

and brake down the wall of Gath,

and the wall of Jabneh,

and the wall of Ashdod,

and built cities about Ashdod,

and among the Philistines.

2 Chronicles 27:1-6

King James Version

27 Jotham was twenty and five years old

when he began to reign,

and he reigned sixteen years in Jerusalem.

His mother's name also was Jerushah,

the daughter of Zadok.

2 And he did that which was right in the sight of the Lord,

according to all that his father Uzziah did:

howbeit he entered not into the temple of the Lord.

And the people did yet corruptly.

3 He built the high gate of the house of the Lord,

and on the wall of Ophel he built much.

4 Moreover he built cities in the mountains of Judah,

and in the forests he built castles and towers.

5 He fought also with the king of the Ammonites,

and prevailed against them.

And the children of Ammon gave him the same year

an hundred talents of silver,

and ten thousand measures of wheat,

and ten thousand of barley.

So much did the children of Ammon pay unto him,

both the second year, and the third.

6 So Jotham became mighty,

because he prepared his ways

before the Lord his God.

2 Chronicles 36:16-19

King James Version

16 But they mocked the messengers of God,

and despised his words, and misused his prophets,

until the wrath of the Lord arose against his people,

till there was no remedy.

17 Therefore he brought upon them the king of the Chaldees,

who slew their young men

with the sword in the house of their sanctuary,

and had no compassion upon young man or maiden,

old man, or him that stooped for age:

he gave them all into his hand.

18 And all the vessels of the house of God,

great and small,

and the treasures of the house of the Lord,

and the treasures of the king, and of his princes;

all these he brought to Babylon.

19 And they burnt the house of God,

and brake down the wall of Jerusalem,

and burnt all the palaces thereof with fire,

and destroyed all the goodly vessels thereof.

Ezra 9:8-10

King James Version

8 And now for a little space

grace hath been shewed from the Lord our God,

to leave us a remnant to escape,

and to give us a nail in his holy place,

that our God may lighten our eyes,

and give us a little reviving in our bondage.

9 For we were bondmen;

yet our God hath not forsaken us in our bondage,

but hath extended mercy unto us

in the sight of the kings of Persia,

to give us a reviving,

to set up the house of our God,

and to repair the desolations thereof,

and to give us a wall in Judah and in Jerusalem.

10 And now, O our God,

what shall we say after this?

for we have forsaken thy commandments,

Nehemiah 2:17-18

King James Version

17 Then said I unto them,

Ye see the distress that we are in,

how Jerusalem lieth waste,

and the gates thereof are burned with fire:

come, and let us build up the wall of Jerusalem,

that we be no more a reproach.

18 Then I told them of the hand of my God

which was good upon me;

as also the king's words that he had spoken unto me.

And they said, Let us rise up and build.

So they strengthened their hands for this good work.

Nehemiah 4:6

King James Version

6 So built we the wall;

and all the wall was joined together

unto the half thereof:

for the people had a mind to work.

Psalm 18:2

King James Version

2 The Lord is my rock,

and my fortress,

and my deliverer;

my God,

my strength,

in whom I will trust;

my buckler,

and the horn of my salvation,

and my high tower.

Psalm 62:5-6

King James Version

5 My soul, wait thou only upon God;

for my expectation is from him.

6 He only is my rock and my salvation:

he is my defence;

I shall not be moved.

Psalm 80:12

King James Version

12 Why hast thou then broken down her hedges,

so that all they which pass by the way do pluck her?

Psalm 89:40

King James Version

40 Thou hast broken down all his hedges;

thou hast brought his strong holds to ruin.

Proverbs 18:11-12

King James Version

11 The rich man's wealth is his strong city,

and as an high wall in his own conceit.

12 Before destruction the heart of man is haughty,

and before honour is humility.

Proverbs 25:28

King James Version

28 He that hath no rule over his own spirit

is like a city that is broken down, and without walls.

Isaiah 5:3-5

King James Version

3 And now, O inhabitants of Jerusalem,

and men of Judah,

judge, I pray you,

betwixt me and my vineyard.

4 What could have been done more to my vineyard,

that I have not done in it?

wherefore, when I looked

that it should bring forth grapes,

brought it forth wild grapes?

5 And now go to;

I will tell you what I will do to my vineyard:

I will take away the hedge thereof,

and it shall be eaten up;

and break down the wall thereof,

and it shall be trodden down:

Isaiah 22:1-5

King James Version

22 The burden of the valley of vision.

What aileth thee now,

that thou art wholly gone up to the housetops?

2 Thou that art full of stirs,

a tumultuous city, joyous city:

thy slain men are not slain with the sword,

nor dead in battle.

3 All thy rulers are fled together,

they are bound by the archers:

all that are found in thee are bound together,

which have fled from far.

4 Therefore said I,

Look away from me;

I will weep bitterly,

labour not to comfort me,

because of the spoiling of the daughter of my people.

5 For it is a day of trouble,

and of treading down,

and of perplexity by the Lord God of hosts

in the valley of vision,

breaking down the walls,

and of crying to the mountains.

Isaiah 25:1-4

King James Version

25 O Lord, thou art my God;

I will exalt thee, I will praise thy name;

for thou hast done wonderful things;

thy counsels of old are faithfulness and truth.

2 For thou hast made of a city an heap;

of a defenced city a ruin:

a palace of strangers to be no city;

it shall never be built.

3 Therefore shall the strong people glorify thee,

the city of the terrible nations shall fear thee.

4 For thou hast been a strength to the poor,

a strength to the needy in his distress,

a refuge from the storm,

a shadow from the heat,

when the blast of the terrible ones

is as a storm against the wall.

Isaiah 26:1

King James Version

26 In that day shall this song be sung

in the land of Judah;

We have a strong city;

salvation will God appoint

for walls and bulwarks.

Isaiah 30:12-15

King James Version

12 Wherefore thus saith the Holy One of Israel,

Because ye despise this word,

and trust in oppression and perverseness,

and stay thereon:

13 Therefore this iniquity shall be to you

as a breach ready to fall,

swelling out in a high wall,

whose breaking cometh suddenly at an instant.

14 And he shall break it

as the breaking of the potters' vessel

 that is broken in pieces;

he shall not spare:

so that there shall not be found

in the bursting of it a sherd

to take fire from the hearth,

or to take water withal out of the pit.

15 For thus saith the Lord God,

the Holy One of Israel;

In returning and rest shall ye be saved;

in quietness and in confidence

shall be your strength: and ye would not.

Isaiah 38:1-2

King James Version

38 In those days was Hezekiah sick unto death.

And Isaiah the prophet the son of Amoz

came unto him, and said unto him,

Thus saith the Lord,

Set thine house in order:

for thou shalt die, and not live.

2 Then Hezekiah turned his face toward the wall,

and prayed unto the Lord,

Isaiah 59:10

King James Version

10 We grope for the wall like the blind,

and we grope as if we had no eyes:

we stumble at noon day as in the night;

we are in desolate places as dead men.

Jeremiah 1:18-19

King James Version

18 For, behold,

I have made thee this day a defenced city,

and an iron pillar,

and brasen walls against the whole land,

against the kings of Judah,

against the princes thereof,

against the priests thereof,

and against the people of the land.

19 And they shall fight against thee;

but they shall not prevail against thee;

for I am with thee, saith the Lord,

to deliver thee.

Jeremiah 50:13-15

King James Version

13 Because of the wrath of the Lord

it shall not be inhabited,

but it shall be wholly desolate:

every one that goeth by Babylon shall be astonished,

and hiss at all her plagues.

14 Put yourselves in array against Babylon

round about:

all ye that bend the bow, shoot at her,

spare no arrows:

for she hath sinned against the Lord.

15 Shout against her round about:

she hath given her hand:

her foundations are fallen,

her walls are thrown down:

for it is the vengeance of the Lord:

take vengeance upon her;

as she hath done, do unto her.

Lamentations 2:7-8

King James Version

7 The Lord hath cast off his altar,

he hath abhorred his sanctuary,

he hath given up into the hand of the enemy

the walls of her palaces;

they have made a noise in the house of the Lord,

as in the day of a solemn feast.

8 The Lord hath purposed to destroy

the wall of the daughter of Zion:

he hath stretched out a line,

he hath not withdrawn his hand from destroying:

therefore he made the rampart and the wall

to lament; they languished together.

Ezekiel 13:8-15

King James Version

8 Therefore thus saith the Lord God;

Because ye have spoken vanity, and seen lies,

therefore, behold, I am against you,

saith the Lord God.

9 And mine hand shall be upon the prophets

that see vanity, and that divine lies:

they shall not be in the assembly of my people,

neither shall they be written in the writing

of the house of Israel,

neither shall they enter into the land of Israel;

and ye shall know that I am the Lord God.

10 Because,

even because they have seduced my people, saying,

Peace; and there was no peace;

and one built up a wall,

and, lo, others daubed it with untempered morter:

11 Say unto them which daub it with untempered morter,

that it shall fall:

there shall be an overflowing shower;

and ye, O great hailstones, shall fall;

and a stormy wind shall rend it.

12 Lo, when the wall is fallen,

shall it not be said unto you,

Where is the daubing wherewith ye have daubed it?

13 Therefore thus saith the Lord God;

I will even rend it with a stormy wind in my fury;

and there shall be an overflowing shower in mine anger,

and great hailstones in my fury to consume it.

14 So will I break down the wall

that ye have daubed with untempered morter,

and bring it down to the ground,

so that the foundation thereof shall be discovered,

and it shall fall,

and ye shall be consumed in the midst thereof:

and ye shall know that I am the Lord.

15 Thus will I accomplish my wrath upon the wall,

and upon them that have daubed it

with untempered morter, and will say unto you,

The wall is no more, neither they that daubed it;

Ezekiel 22:27-31

King James Version

27 Her princes in the midst thereof

are like wolves ravening the prey,

to shed blood,

and to destroy souls,

to get dishonest gain.

28 And her prophets have daubed them

with untempered morter,

seeing vanity, and divining lies unto them, saying,

Thus saith the Lord God,

when the Lord hath not spoken.

29 The people of the land have used oppression,

and exercised robbery,

and have vexed the poor and needy:

yea, they have oppressed the stranger wrongfully.

30 And I sought for a man among them,

that should make up the hedge,

and stand in the gap before me for the land,

that I should not destroy it: but I found none.

31 Therefore have I poured out

mine indignation upon them;

I have consumed them with the fire of my wrath:

their own way have I recompensed upon their heads,

saith the Lord God.

Ezekiel 26:1-5

King James Version

26 And it came to pass in the eleventh year,

in the first day of the month,

that the word of the Lord came unto me, saying,

2 Son of man,

because that Tyrus hath said against Jerusalem,

Aha, she is broken that was the gates of the people:

she is turned unto me:

I shall be replenished, now she is laid waste:

3 Therefore thus saith the Lord God;

Behold,

I am against thee, O Tyrus,

and will cause many nations to come up against thee,

as the sea causeth his waves to come up.

4 And they shall destroy the walls of Tyrus,

and break down her towers:

I will also scrape her dust from her,

and make her like the top of a rock.

5 It shall be a place

for the spreading of nets in the midst of the sea:

for I have spoken it, saith the Lord God:

and it shall become a spoil to the nations.

Daniel 5:3-6

King James Version

3 Then they brought the golden vessels

that were taken out of the temple of the house of God

which was at Jerusalem;

and the king, and his princes, his wives,

and his concubines, drank in them.

4 They drank wine,

and praised the gods of gold,

and of silver, of brass,

of iron, of wood, and of stone.

5 In the same hour came forth fingers of a man's hand,

and wrote over against the candlestick

upon the plaister of the wall of the king's palace:

and the king saw the part of the hand that wrote.

6 Then the king's countenance was changed,

and his thoughts troubled him,

so that the joints of his loins were loosed,

and his knees smote one against another.

Zechariah 2:3-5

King James Version

3 And, behold,

the angel that talked with me went forth,

and another angel went out to meet him,

4 And said unto him,

Run, speak to this young man, saying,

Jerusalem shall be inhabited as towns without walls

for the multitude of men and cattle therein:

5 For I, saith the Lord,

will be unto her a wall of fire round about,

and will be the glory in the midst of her.

Acts 23:1-5

King James Version

23 And Paul,

earnestly beholding the council, said,

Men and brethren,

I have lived in all good conscience before God

until this day.

2 And the high priest Ananias commanded them

that stood by him to smite him on the mouth.

3 Then said Paul unto him,

God shall smite thee, thou whited wall:

for sittest thou to judge me after the law,

and commandest me to be smitten contrary to the law?

4 And they that stood by said,

Revilest thou God's high priest?

5 Then said Paul,

I wist not, brethren, that he was the high priest:

for it is written,

Thou shalt not speak evil

of the ruler of thy people.

Ephesians 2:12-19

King James Version

12 That at that time ye were without Christ,

being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel,

and strangers from the covenants of promise,

having no hope, and without God in the world:

13 But now in Christ Jesus

ye who sometimes were far off

are made nigh by the blood of Christ.

14 For he is our peace,

who hath made both one,

and hath broken down

the middle wall of partition between us;

15 Having abolished in his flesh the enmity,

even the law of commandments

contained in ordinances;

for to make in himself of twain one new man,

so making peace;

16 And that he might reconcile both unto God

in one body by the cross,

having slain the enmity thereby:

17 And came and preached peace to you

which were afar off, and to them that were nigh.

18 For through him we both have access

by one Spirit unto the Father.

19 Now therefore ye are no more strangers

and foreigners, but fellowcitizens with the saints,

and of the household of God;

Ephesians 2:21

King James Version

21 In whom all the building fitly framed together

groweth unto an holy temple in the Lord:

Revelation 21:10-18

King James Version

10 And he carried me away in the spirit

to a great and high mountain,

and shewed me that great city,

the holy Jerusalem,

descending out of heaven from God,

11 Having the glory of God:

and her light was like unto a stone most precious,

even like a jasper stone, clear as crystal;

12 And had a wall great and high,

and had twelve gates, a

nd at the gates twelve angels,

and names written thereon,

which are the names of the twelve tribes

of the children of Israel:

13 On the east three gates;

on the north three gates;

on the south three gates;

and on the west three gates.

14 And the wall of the city had twelve foundations,

and in them the names of the twelve apostles of the Lamb.

15 And he that talked with me

had a golden reed to measure the city,

and the gates thereof, and the wall thereof.

16 And the city lieth foursquare,

and the length is as large as the breadth:

and he measured the city with the reed,

twelve thousand furlongs.

The length and the breadth and the height of it

are equal.

17 And he measured the wall thereof,

an hundred and forty and four cubits,

according to the measure of a man,

that is, of the angel.

18 And the building of the wall of it was of jasper:

and the city was pure gold, like unto clear glass.
